Life Update: The Blogger Returns

Wow, it's so easy to fall off the radar, huh? I wish I could say I'd been off travelling the world or constructing some sort of dream dome home (note to self: blog about dome homes one day). Instead, I'll tell you the very boring truth: life got in the way.

I recently moved house & I'm sure you all know how stressful that is so I won't bore you with the details. All you need to know is that I have built so much flat pack furniture that the skin on my hands is probably tough enough to pick nettles or take hot trays out of the oven.

Aside from that, I have had some lovely things going on, too, so I'll share some snapshots.

I imagine that by now the pictures above are of familiar sights to you all. Yes, I was back in St Andrews. My friend Stacy (The Northern Geologist) was briefly back in the UK from doing her PhD at Memorial University Newfoundland, and us enterprising alumni managed to gather 99% of our university friends together in Edinburgh for an early November reunion. We spent the day in St Andrews, avoiding the rain (classic) and eating Fisher and Donaldson fudge donuts.

This visit felt different from the last time. I was less crippled by homesickness and able to just enjoy being home with my friends, eating pizza and burgers at The Rule while the football was on.

This trip meant that I also got to spend some time with my beautiful cousin Sarah (pictured here on the left) roaming around a sunny and autumnal Edinburgh. There's nothing I like better than a good bit of architecture and a better bit of lensflare.

Then there was Guy Fawkes' night. This is the first time I've ever taken photographs of fireworks and I was really pleased with how these shots turn out. Bonfire Night is one of my favourite nights of the year. Maybe I'm just attracted to shiny things and loud explosions? Who knows? But more importantly this year, 5th November was a second date.

Which brings me to the second lovely distraction in my life at the moment. This goofball:

Yeah yeah yeah, I know. I can practically hear you guys rolling your eyes at me. Yes, I have somehow tricked someone into thinking that I'm charming and adorable enough to be in a relationship with. Incidentally, my first relationship, which is incredibly exciting. But this is him, his name is Arron and he is beautiful and Irish. Hello Arron!

But in general, I've been enjoying the Christmas spirit. From about mid-November there's a tangible sense of festive goodwill in the air. I promise it's there, just pay attention! Whether it's a thousand tiny lightbulbs wrapped around a tree or a little wooden village that smells of bratwürste and glühwein, things seem a little brighter and happier.

Left: Chester, Right: Liverpool.

And what can beat the warm light of an Autumn morning?

I sure can't think of anything.
